no worries, but what I will say is that I met him on eBay, and although he`s a genuine fella and I don`t want to do him out of business he also Advertises these on eBay too, so you MAY get them a little cheaper if you Bid for them rather than buy direct ;)

just another friendly Heads-Up.

Chris m, yes the idea is to churn out unburnt solids to make the smoke. The dye evaporates, and colours the smoke, as well as adding to it. This is what means it won't work in a KNSU smoke, because the higher temperature makes it burn

forgive my ignorance, but I`ve seen this "KNSU" a few times here and have No idea what it means?

I assume KN is short for potassium nitrate, and S is for Sulpher, but the "U"?

Yeah sorry, it's an awful lot quicker than writing out potassium nitrate and sugar (maybe even KNO3 and sugar, but I'm just lazy)

Ive made yellow but nothing funky as the dyes and potassium chlorate costs too much.

I just found something interesting at the supermarket 'Pure Icing Sugar', this stuff it at least 400 mesh, very fluffy and is pure sugar. ATM im trying to find a kno3 based mix that gives off the most smoke that doesn't require melting the ingredients together.

it doesn`t have to if you make your own! it`s filthy cheap in fact.

now the Perc is quite expensive (on eBay anyway).

I've only made them with colored 'pre-mix' from Skylighter. Pricey way to go, but I wasn't able to source the dye in hobby quantities. :( I'm still trying.

Marble, have you tried a smoke mix with paraffin wax? I'd say they have the same output as a commercial, except it seems to go up more, and it's white.
How did you make yellow without chlorate and dyes, or did you have them?

It was kno3 and arsenic sulfide / realgar, 50/50 mix

Not recommended because of its toxicity

A friend asked me to make a good smoke device for his paintball adventure paintball next week, the new sugar i found is great and ive never had better results. Its all been assembled but to make it look better and to stop anything getting to the composition i cut a pingpong ball in half and stuck it over the end of the tube with the fuse sticking out the middle. Will this cause any problems when lighting? last thing i want is for it to explode due to the added confinement. I figure it will ignite and burn through it pretty quickly as the mixture doesnt burn that fast (but a small pile went up damn quick) but i would like to hear your opinions.

Cheers

Is it the paraffin mix? If so then it isn't going to explode, I'd say the biggest problem will be that when the pingpong ball catches fire, since it is so close to the top, it will help the smoke to ignite, giving you a 3ft bright orange flame. Make sure you use baffles so that the smoke is below the flash temerature and isolated from the flame. If you aren't using the paraffin mix, give up now, the site won't allow it, and if they do the smmoke will probably be too thin for any real use.

no paraffin (so the smoke wont be flammable), so its best to remove the ball?

The site is not one of the strictest around and this thing isnt very big (50g)
