A few updates-

Co-op- Average Standard Stuff.

Netto- Actually, not bad- its the old Astra brand, now owned by Cosmic- selection boxes start at �3.99- so much better than this Buy on get one free �10 nonsence.

Im getting the 'Sky b**b' rockets from Netto for �2.49 as well as the stuff im getting fro Epic tommorow. Co-op always seem so expensive!

just bought the rio rockets from aldi, the larger rockets in the pack are over packaged because the insides are the same size as the smaller ones, also bought the �10 fire pack box....although the website says there are 14 fireworks, you actually get 17 which seems like great value, a few multi shots in there (an unamed "100 sot roman candle barrage) and also a 60 shot "silver star battery"

ill be testing a few of these tonight so will post back with results

I think you may have your information wrong or there are different fireworks in each box, there wasn't any 60 shot tubes in my firepack. But anyway...

A few fountains, a few small barages and fountain/candle mixes. There is one 100 shot roman candle which I'm tempted to use now.

Heres mine, on the side of the box it says "17 fireworks, pack contents may vary"....this is what i got in my box, ive drawn arrows to a few to show which are the 100/60 shots & so on

as long as they all work i'd say its great value for money

have a look on the side of the "silver star battery" which is in one of your photos, on the sides it says 60 shot

Hmm.. didn't notice that.

Btw, those 2 large (in comparison) fountains are actually WORSE than the flinstone fountains. For the size, the flintstone fountains aren't too bad.

I think the website classes the Flintstone box as one firework, when in fact it contains 4.

On another note- did anyone see Aldis �20 2 minute cake? It looks rather small for a finale piece- probably low bore comets and small fish and spinners.

tested a couple out of the box before to see how they performed

pretty good all round, except the 60 shot i mentioned was more like 20-30 shot flopper...white stars, the first few that shot out didnt quite make it out of the tissue paper & ended up on thr ground....stand well back for these, also the fuses seem a bit touch & go, a 5 shot candle only fired 4 shots but for a tenner they are not too bad. tested 3 of the rio rockets too, they were quite good, nothing spectacular but pretty decent effects & not too loud!

I have tested (better term would be dissected) a few of the fireworks. The 5 shot roman candles ID was around 5-6mm, the stars were rolled magnesium based red stars (for me at least) with a small layer of prime- pretty well made stars. The lift was black powder and it used a fuse travelling all the way down the tube. It used saw dust as plugs and so that the first star was able to fly out at some speed there was a clay plug on top. However, they could have made these into at least 15 shots, only 1/3rd of the tube had composition in it, the rest was filled with clay :S.

However, that did teach me a way of making candles which I will be employing next time I get the right tubes.

The rockets don't look bad and some of the selection box looks OK, but the fountains are the usual cheat... Viz

Now I know they would say the big box is to stop us poor helpless consumers from burning ourselves, but it's really just a cheat to make us think we are getting more than we really are...

Also when volcanoes are done this way it's not the same firework at all. Real volcanoes burn more and more fiercely as the get to the bottom, owing to the diameter of the burning composition increasing - this can't happen when you put a straight gerbe in a volcano shaped case.

Thank god this is only to supplement my own stuff!

Most consumer fountains are like this these days, but they usually try to hide it. This one you have to open the lid to light it and then you see the truth. But of course you don't know this looking at the sealed box...

Shame to see a brand like Standard stooping to this, but then it's only a 'brand' now and not a proper firework maker...

Agree 100% - thats "Window Dressing " trickery of the worst kind. You can get decent proper cones starting with Fireworks Internationals �3.99 stuff. Kimbolton and Planet/Great Northern do some amazing ones. Avoid Men Shuns and Epics - a 7 inch cone in a 13 inch tube!

It's always easy to tell when the fountain feels stupidly light. Atleast standard have made them look nice, Devco havn't bothered hiding the fact that they're window dressed.

Also, I can't see the rocket pack you bought on this leaflet from Sainsbury's I have, it only has the Free Spirit and Midnight Blast rockets listed.

Jindivik: How was the 100 shot roman candle? And photos or vids of the items?
