Our saviours : In the ninth century, a team of Chinese alchemists trying to synthesize an "elixir of immortality" from saltpeter, sulfur, realgar, and dried honey instead invented gunpowder.

Hi Guys,

been a long time and just trying to catch up....

I think I still have a box of hercules bangers in the shed somewhere, I'll try and dig them out over the weekend, and take some pictures (if the mice haven't got to them)..... thinking about it, I may even have a few original mini rockets there as well.

When I grew up, all we had were Brock and Astra fireworks (that was all that was allowed into Guernsey so it seems), and I still get a memory lurch when I smell burning touchpaper and it reminds me of the times we used to tape them to rocks and throw them into rockpools.... We were always expectant to see a movie style spout of water, but instead what ALWAYS happened was a couple of bubbles filled with sulferous smoke floating the to surface.

I am a huge fan of spectacular fountains and shells, but there is and always will be a soft spot for a banger.....

Interestingly, not so long ago I got my hands on a matchbox sized pack of french bangers and in there were 50 little things..... they were a damn site louder than what I remember of the british bangers, made me jump :-)
Everything is poisonous if taken in the extreme.

Take time for example, have too much of it and you will eventually die....

That seize of fireworks at that shop in manchester is less than a mile away, all the lads around here had hundreds of the little buggers, kept lettin em off on my road, so i decided i will show them a banger n half, 6 gram of flash later they ceased to carry on ha ha. They were little red things, not small either and very loud, a mate of mine bought 2000 of em and i pulled one apart, surprise surprise flash !! but it looked alot more silvery than my dark ali mix. There will still be thousands nocking around here for a while yet i suspect

If the are the little red ones, then they will probably be the Mark 1 (or 2) French Banger, they come in what looks like red tracing paper package and normally in packs of 8.

We used to pick up lots of these on boat trips to St.Malo and lesse, the larger ones look like full size sticks of TNT (usually with XL or XXL on the packet), and come in packs of 3, and yes I am still talking about petards, for those with gutter brains like me (or firecrackers in America and bangers in the UK). :-)
