The ground work is going to be one of the most costly parts of the development, are there any drawings specs for the job as a whole?

Your right, the ground work could become one of the most costly aspects of the project, but it depends upon how they (amberley) now want to develope all or part of the white pits area.

Electricity supply, road/pathways, foundations for shed bases, and drainage are just some of the aspects that need to be considered and discussed in more detail when we meet with them.

Phil has designed & forwarded drawings of the sheds within a agreed and measured site area to Amberley, but since they made there managing director redundant, we just don`t know how far they got with there drawings spec of the site area (if any) at this moment in time.

Just to keep everyone in the picture, we had a very positive meeting with Amberley the other day. They are very keen for the project to go ahead, however the goal posts have moved quite a bit - nobody’s fault.

We will publish all the details in the next week or so as there is a lot to think about.

In the mean time, are there any artists out there who could produce us an 'artist's impression' - the kind of thing you see in glossy brochures when there is a new housing development?

Please PM me if you are such a person or know of one.

I use Autocad but not for drawing buildings

A lot of the architects use google sketchup for 3d sketches, it seems to be pretty easy to use for anyone thats got a few hours to pick up the basics.

The basic version is a free download and seems to work ok.

Maybe it would be better suited to the task in hand?

Thanks Helix,

Do these types of softwares allow one to send/impose a photo or drawing onto the design page which can altered/configured/cropped to look like an artists impression drawing?

That's what its normally used for.

I haven't used sketchup very often but I'm fairly sure you can use it in conjunction with a jpeg image and crop/ draw over it

I had a brief play with Sketchup a few months ago, but I found the learning curve to get a professional result a bit steep.

We are currently getting some quotes to see what a ballpark figure might be. We will also ask around a couple of school art departments to see if we can find some talent there. Was just hoping that someone on the board might know someone.

We are looking for a really professional image of a potentially major visitor attraction...

Phil,

What are the artist impressions going be used for? is this for Amberley leaflets? or other?

Ive PM a guy on the forum who might be able to help, hopefully he will contact you sooner rather than later!

I'll do a full update explaining what it's all about in the next few days. Few loose ends to tie up...

I have just sent the following as part of our email newsletter & repeat it verbatim here. It's a challenge, but the project is still very much alive:

Amberley Museum Project

After a bit of a gap (not due to us), we are back on track with the project, but with a major challenge.

Due to the current financial situation, Amberley have had to cut their staff and postpone many projects. They are now in good shape, but it has affected how our project can be done.

The good news is that Amberley are very keen for the project to happen, in fact ours is the only new project they are currently carrying forward. The bad news is that we will have to raise a lot more money.

Amberley are no longer in a position to do the groundwork and it has turned out that the site will need concrete sub-bases and an anti rock-fall fence. They have also said that they want funding for the whole project in place before we proceed. They do not want a half finished project and neither do we. This means we can no longer have a phased approach. The bottom line is that we must budget in the region of £25,000 to £30,000. Now we may need less than this (due to work that can be done by volunteers etc.) but this is the sort of figure we must budget for. In view of this I think we must actively seek commercial sponsors. There could be very good publicity in the project for a firework related business in particular.

We will be putting full details on the project website in the next few days.

Keith Brock has withdrawn from the project management group due to personal circumstances and we take this opportunity to thank him for his valuable contribution.

We seek your help in the following ways:

1) We are looking for a few key people to join the management team who are enthusiastic about the project.

2) We would particularly like to hear from anyone who has experience fundraising.

3) We have an excellent team of workers who have helped at Dartford, but we can always do with more. Particularly anyone with skills such as building, planning, architects, qualified digger drivers etc. – although I stress all are welcome. The more we can do ourselves, the less it will cost.

4) Do you know a company who would like to sponsor the project? Perhaps your company or the company you work for? We are looking for substantial sponsorship. E.g. £10,000 would fund the museum building. £5000 would do the groundwork. This said, all contributions are very valuable to us & everyone who has contributed financially or by labour will have their name displayed at the site.

I think this re-evaluation will allow us to carry out the project on a more professional basis and I am still confident that we can end up with a fabulous exhibit – but we need your help more than ever.

It suggests that if there is a need for rock fall-fencing that work involving the buildings foundations and any services that need excavation could be problematic and expensive.

But I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to find an explosive engineer to reduce the big stuff.

No not too hard I would think -

It's actually not as bad as it sounds.

The project will be nestled in the corner of the old chalk pit. The museum have been there over 25 years and the pit walls are pretty much stabilised by vegetation now. There have not been rock falls in this area for many years and anyway, our building will be out from the cliff walls. However, I suspect the local council (who are the landowners) will want to see fencing as 'belt and braces, Likely cost about £1200.

The ground is compacted chalk & although this is a perfectly good base, it can be subject to frost heave, so for the sake of the longevity of the building it was thought better to make a raft foundation. This probably only needs to be 100mm as the buildings are very light. The costs all depend on how much we do ourselves and how much we have to pay for...

The clearing of the site is again not major - especially if we find someone who can drive a digger for us (for free).

Nothing that cannot be accomplished - if we have the will.
