Hi All,

Further to the precursor consultation, I've been asked for the number of our members that would actually obtain a licence to procure the restricted chemicals if the license was of a reasonable cost.  I would hazard a guess that most members that undertake experimental pyro would obtain a licence, but the questions is, how many members is that?

So, can I please have a show of hands?  A single reply to this thread will suffice.  In a poll I did before in the forums:

http://www.pyrosocie...poll#entry56635

we had 59 members actively wanting to experiment.  In you reply to this, can you also specify if you feel that the majority of these 59 individuals would in your view obtain a licence if necessary?

Cheers,

Wayne.

Yes from me if it is a "reasonable cost" Free is best but if it means we are legal and its affordable then I am happy to comply. I think most members would. Surely this is what we all want.

Likewise - I'm sure most would buy at 'reasonable' cost - I would.

Interesting thought. Would this give one a 'right' to buy? ie. would lab suppliers who currently won't sell, sell to a licensed buyer?

Absolutely!  This is one of the main benefits of licencing for us that I mentioned before.

Would weigh up cost against registered business and if cheaper would get a licence. So I guess that is a yes. Either way I would stay legal.

Phew that was close.

Sorry for the double post.

I guess one of the biggest sources for license purchase would be pressure from the usual pyro suppliers. If they are on board they would be the ones directing their customers to get licenses. They would have a better idea of numbers of people who would need cert's. Maybe have a chat with Oliver Brown chemicals (and others Tim/Phil/Minerals etc), he is a nice guy and I am sure he would give you some idea of customer base.

I will be speaking to him in the next day or two, if he does not see this post I will ask him if you wish.

I for one would gladly do as needed to show my opinion that we need an open system where we are happy to discuss the things we buy and for good reason.

I can aslo offer that in some 6 ish years Ive got 2400 registered customers still (Ive cleared off many unused or unapproved accounts), roughly 3/4 of those in the uk and Id say a decent proportion would wish to do the same and show they are legal but you would have to decide your own figures from that info.

I'd buy a licence.

I understand theat there are also members of ukps who do not frequent the forum, we need to contact them directly possily?

I'm afraid I don't really understand what you are asking in the second part of the post?

Keep up the good work please :-)

Basically Yes, according to the "official" idea of reasonable cost.

At reasonable cost, yes, I would rather be legal.

I would apply for a licence as long as the cost was not prohibitively expensive, and I would assume that most of our members would also.

I would also like to see the UKPS playing a role in offering courses and open days for people who are interested in taking up the hobby, in fact I would go as far to say that being member of the society would be prerequisite to having any license to experiment with firework hobby production.

Hello Wayne,

Licensing appears to be a good idea. Cost would be an issue. I'd certainly purchase one.

I do run my own Ltd company, though I have never purchased materials this way.

Regards,

Terry
