anyone know anything about creating ricochet spark hits ?

these are in effect small spark generators.

b.p. + titanium sponge

70/30 + titanium sponge

only a small amount of composition would be required (don't want too many sparks)

any other ideas ?

I know these are also added digitally in post productions

Have you ever tried zirconium and bird grit spark hits.

The two parts are loaded into a hard 'paintball' shell and fired from a paintball gun.

No wiring needed, just spray and pray!

Amount of sparks can be adjusted by varying the amount of zirconium.

I have some smaller versions of these for 6mm BB guns, but the sparks from these are very faint, so the room/set needs to be quite dark and the camera needs a big light catching lens with a small F number (more light getting into the camera) to make them show up.

Hope this helps.

Steve

hi steve,

yes I am aware of the so called "zirc" hits

zirconium is dodgy stuff, I prefer something simpler..such as a very small robotic hit as it were
just to create a few sparks

have a good "experimental" day

sounds like you might be talking about the product below re the 6mm bbs

I agree with Steve, Zirc hits are used to great effect.  If you want to do a hole on a window effect and can't damage the window, load Vaseline and a black paper circle into the paintball sphere.  On contact, the case breaks, the Vaseline sticks to the window and the black circle gives the visual impression of a hole.  You can also use brown plaster type dust to simulate ricochets in the same way.  As in reality there are very few visual sparks on impact

When doing this effect, do you need to use thinner spheres to avoid breaking any windows? Or are the normal paintball spheres soft enough, even at speed to not break windows.

Dave, try 68balls.com for empty shells. They are the best ones. Click and go. No glue. I have tried them and they work well. Good luck
