Just stumbled across this article in an unrelated web search so thought I'd post it here. Enjoy

"but our society has become so yellow-bellied, so over-protective that I think it can actually do harm to children because they don't ever see the dangers to recognise them for what they are"

I didn't know he had a licence to sell beer to sixth formers :) the more I read the more I like Ron. I think he talks a lot of sense! I also like the picture in the article. I remember a kids programme called "Watch" where he was in a shed making fireworks. This was also in the 70s I think. I would love to see that footage again.

Ron is an inspiration. So many have come and gone during the time he has been in the game, he remains as true today as he did at the beginning. He personifies all that was great in the U.K. industry and yet, on a personal level, displays  complete humility, patience and kindness.

Very interesting read.

Our saviours : In the ninth century, a team of Chinese alchemists trying to synthesize an "elixir of immortality" from saltpeter, sulfur, realgar, and dried honey instead invented gunpowder.
