I would appreciate some help with the following challenge....

 

I want to establish the balanced reactions - or as near to as possible for stoichiometric mixtures of whistle compositions - Potassium Benzoate/Potassium Perchlorate and Sodium Salicylate/Potassium Perchlorate.

 

From these I want to ascertain the energetic characteristics for either and compare these values to those of flash composition - 70:30 Pot Perchlorate and Aluminium.

 

Is this a mad topic to post - there is a reason for it.

Should have mentioned, years ago we provided flash cartridges for dust initiation purposes. The client then specified a requirement in Kilojoules as a pyrotechnic energy source, I want to provide the same information but in relation to unpressed whistle composition alongside flash composition -  in effect I want to investigate the prospects for a reduced flame energetic composition where run of the mill flash composition would be regarded as a bench-mark. I am taking the assumption that whilst complete flame elimination is not possible, the removal of the metallic components from the composition would be a step in the right direction towards reducing the thermal (and visual) signature. Opinions would be valued and welcome. "Flash-less" flash compositions providing audible and brisant characteristics without the flame/flash/heat....any clues?

Not if your using Dark flash , you get the bang but not the visual :)

Unfortunately the method of propagation of deflagrating compounds is by flame front. To get to flame/flash free state you have to go to detonating explosives, which propagate by shock wave and introduce a whole new raft of legislation and compliance paperwork.
