Good smoke bomb chemicals?

What is a good combination of chemicals to make a smoke bomb with white smoke?

You should do a search. I will  tell you this time, but you can search the method of how to do it. KNO3 and sugar.

you can also add candle wax  it offsets the water absorbtion of the kno3  sugar composition whilst adding much smoke itself .( You also have all you need to start making kno3/sugar  rockets later)  .To get maximum smoke you want the exiting combustion gasses to allow smouldering but not small flames . even on a seemingly simple smoke cartridge you will find that the air space above the composition and the size of the exit holes  determine and dramatically affect  the performance of the device. Welcome to a new and challenging hobby. Smoke bombs are an enjoyable and surprisingly challenging start ,  Igniting smoke compositions will also require some work . if you havent got visco fuse to hand newspaper treated with a hot saturated kno3/sugar solution then dried and tightly rolled into a fuse cord  bound with cotton thread  (NOT tape wrapped as it makes an improvised quickmatch if covered) can be used ,cut the fuses to length put a small amount of glue on the end then coat the tip in finely powdered kno3/sugar as dedicated fuses with igniter tips.  Enjoy timing your fuses- Keep them dry they absorb water easily . A small plastic click lock tub with dehumidifier dryer crystal sachet in the bottom is ideal avoid their  containment in glass jars etc , You can make everything yourself from scratch- fuses , cases.  even the Kno3 from the  compost heap or by electrolysis.  but initially i would buy 1 Kg its not expensive and should last you through winter----  above all record and enjoy!!

I'm all for it, we need as many of us as we can get. who else is going to put there name up and commit themselves.

I cant help but think that any proposed new projects / topics / which involves the making of items

should be in the members area and not the public area

I am also concerned about this  just think , If a local or national paper printed the headline  "arsonist made flares and gunpowder from pyrotechnic site information he read on internet" followed by " all the chemicals and method information was listed on this site "  Thats why my posts are vague as to methods and quantities  on any public forum . And if you dont agree with the above  -from a purely mercenary viewpoint the boost in membership subscription would benefit the society.

Personally, I'd love to post more especially in areas to do with chemistry. However, I have a problem in that I can't paste prepared Word documents into the forums due to an incompatibility between the Society's software and the version of Windows Explorer that I use (so I'm told). This and the limitations of the word processing capabilities of the Society's software make it difficult to post chemical equations etc.

To be honest Icarus discussions within a membership only section of the forum would not stop any authority from gaining accesses.

I don't think that the point was about the authorities at all. More that it restricts access to information to people who are prepared to put their name down on a list, which a would be bomber would be unlikely to do.

Nothing to do with hiding illegal activities from the government at all.
