Absolutely Guys,

If no one wants to post what they are doing then that is the way it will be. Not much more anyone can say really.

What is really important is that people are active doing something constructive somewhere.

I have been and enjoying every bit of it, sadly my experimental green star formula did not even get any criticism on here!! You can't make people respond if they don't want to.

everyone stopped a lot of there experimental work when legalisation was on the horizon ..I am one of the offenders , I have a large field that would make a perfect amateur test area , Ive spoken of it many times we have had good events their  in the past, but when it comes to actually getting it up and going , ive not got round to it . I am at the stage at the moment where chemicals and equipment are in safe storage and i havent had the time to set up a few sheds. I am slightly biassed towards the production of the old lost favorites such as for example the jumping jack  and along side the older fireworks making rocket motors. At the moment no room left in the workshop, It has been taken over by amateur radio electrical vehicle projects ,welders ,chop saws ,a small lathe  etc and my ball mill filled with dry sand as a polishing machine. Summer is a bad time for pyro as the nights are too light but i am looking at a large lump of ashfalt  and want to start making an ammonium perclorate/asphalt  rocket motor !! .. I will pm  Exat 808 and see what he thinks to continuing the concept of an amateur research facility . as to optimum placing of .tiny work shed  and firing area/pit  followed by small drying and equipment store and a separate chemical storage locker . I have a visco machine that is 95% completed and i am looking forward to trying different chemical compositions in the fuse core. incorporating silicon sealant to make a cartridge of silicon based pumpable waterproof air drying fuse was reasonably successful but it formed a much more reliable fuse when paper cased . i intended to use the visco machine to weave the casing but at the moment it sits boxed awaiting a revival.

What if we had local group meetings??? Is there anyone else out there in the midlands willing to have a midlands meeting -is it worth starting as . a new topic ???

Guys,

You have obviously put time and effort in to adding humorous artwork into your posts, perhaps adding some content about what fun you have been having on the pyro front would be good too?

Then that would reduce a little of the tumble weed flying about?

Just an observation.

Virtually no time or effort - a 2 second search for a tumbleweed gif.

I have been posting what I have being doing since 2004.

Just an observation.

This is a post I made last year.

05 September 2016 - 03:05 PM

How strange.

When pyro was illegal, this forum thrived  - now that it is legal, this forum is all but dead!......

Sent 06 September 2016 - 08:59 AM

And here is the reply.......
Hello,
As a new member I can see there are issues but we/you/I are NOT dead, we are here and very much alive.
The question is how can you/we put the past behind us and make the community grow?

It seems nothing has changed, hence the Tumbleweed pics.
I for one would love to see the forum thrive again, but I believe, primarily, leadership should come from the top, and this doesn`t seem to be happening. I have a feeling that more tumbleweed will be appearing next year if something doesn`t change. That of course is based on the assumption that the UKPS is still around. Apathy is hard to deal with :(

Rip Rap,

Whilst you have been around a long time and have posted in the past it is now that counts and that applies to us all.

If you still believe in the Society and the profile it gives to amateurs then please post something with content, I believe the past counts.....for the future, the now.

Surely you must have been doing something?

rocketpro,

I totally agree with you and it is good that you are making your feelings known, we all know things have been bad around here and the fallout has been horrible to deal with, not something I wish to experience again.

Leadership has been lacking for a long time and there are no volunteers to take up important posts within the society itself. To date, despite requests and attempts to get folk on board there has been little interest.

The forum as a stand alone item exists in an almost dormant state with the occasional burst of activity. It still acts as a sort of catch net for the odd few.

Society is people and if people do not give their time to it then it simply cannot succeed.

Behind the scenes and in public I have attempted to convince folk that the past work is fundamentally important to the future. This process has brought me into contact with many of the characters in the scene. Some I am delighted and privileged to have met and spoken to most so far, but the odd one or two have simply set out to make life as hard as possible putting personal agendas before the community.

The past leadership does not have the time and have moved on but Richard Harwood kindly still continues to host the forum for us.

I am only here to try and kindle interest as a fellow amateur who wishes to see the good work the members of the UKPS have done continue. I am not a leader type and can only offer to do a bit on the forum.

Passion on it's own is not enough, specific skills are needed that I do not possess.

I can only apologize that I have not been able to convince people to become a cohesive unit that works for the greater good.

If something is going to happen then EVERYONE will need to step up to the mark in a constructive manner, and without delay.

Freud. Artists, in this view, are people who may avoid neurosis and perversion by sublimating their impulses in their work.

Just waiting to see if there will be any constructive help/ideas coming forward from Rob.L`s excellent post/plea.

As apathetic as I too had become - I believe if we all pull together before it`s too late - we might avoid the precipice.

I have ideas myself but please don`t wait for me, i `m a little busy at the moment, but keeping an eye on the forum hoping to see some response. If there is none, then I guess I will just be another one that disappears back into the shadows.

Rob.L summed it up well....

By starting this thread, I wasn't  trying to be funny or clever - only highlighting the extreme lack of activity.

Personally I have done very little pyro over the last year or so. Mostly down to house move and associated work involved with getting the house as we would like it. So the only thing that I could contribute, was to suggest that I think that the forum is very quiet (to be polite). At least it has provoked some activity.

Hi Vic. The guide I wrote is still hosted on the interesting Wichitabuggywhip.com site.

As I have said several times, I'd love to post work on the chemistry and stoichiometry of the compositions I've been working on, even a mathematical description of how to make the right templates for cones! However, I need to prepare such posts in Word and then paste them onto the Forum, mainly because I don't want to sit for an hour or two in front of the screen and do it in real time!

Again, as I have said several times, I'm told that there is an incompatibility between Internet Explorer current versions that prevents me doing this and, sorry but, I can't see me doing much until the problem is fixed.

Slow day, eh? I'm just watching a total eclipse of the sun over in the states. That's the most spectacular display going on in the sky now. Time for a quickey display of my favourite color shells or other fireworks?

Hi all.
I'm brand new to the forum and also to pyrotechnics. I personally think it's a great idea having a Midlands meet up, a sort of pyro chit chat evening. As I am new to all this I would love to meet ppl with more experience rather that just reading about it on the net. Maybe we could even sort out a sort of competition where you build your device from a few category and everyone scores each other. Maybe even charge a small fee for entry into the compition so you could have prizes? What u think guys?
