They look wrong... should probably be:

0.45 calibre 0.451 dia, 137 grain, swaged lead balls.

0.44 calibre 0.440 dia, 128 grain, swaged lead balls.

I'm not gun expert either, so I may get some of this slightly wrong, to irritation of any resident gun experts, but the calibre refers to the diameter of the barrel of the gun it is to be fired from, and therefore corresponds to the bullets diameter. Compare the calibre to the diameter.

The diametre is already given in inches - ie the 45 calibre ball is 0.451 inches in diameter. To convert to millimetres, multiply be 25:

0.451 x 25 = 11.275mm

The grains part refers to the mass of the ball. A grain is a unit of mass, 1/7000 of a pound. 1 grain = 0.056 grams.

Therefore the .45 calibre bullets each weigh 8.9 grams.

You could be right about that calculation Phoenix, you only made one mistake: 1 inch is 2,54 cm or 25,4 mm not 2,5 or 25 :P
