Okay, I have a simple question regarding the name of an affect.

It looks like a colored comet and when it hits its peak it breaks into two or three stars. It's a common effect, but I can't find what its called. I was thinking a splitter, but not sure.

Thanks,

Patrick

It sounds like a crossette comet. Basicaly this is a comet that has been pressed by a tool which leaves a cavity in the comet. The cavity is usually part filled with flash.

As the comet burns, it reaches the cavity, ignites the flash & breaks what remains of the comet into several "stars".

The effect is described as a crossette break, where the star should break into 4 pieces. Another effect is French splits (also known as crossing stars), where each unit in the firework ejects 2 stars in opposite directions.

Those sound like they are it. Now that you say crossette break, I remember seeing the tooling for pressing those.

Thanks!

Patrick
