I play a TON of Paintball, and almost all commercially run parks are extremely strict about any homemade ANYTHING, especially smokes. I would stick to what you know they will allow, or ask before you waste your time making one. Anyway, pvc (surprisingly) makes great casings for smoke mixes, just leave some room at the top (3x the pipe diameter, 2x if your feeling lucky) to let the smoke cool, only downside is the slight plastic smell.

Pvc is also a little pricey. Don't bother taking the ball out if it's KNSU, since it will have a big flame and be much hotter anyway. I was just thinking the same. Most official sites simply won't allow homemade pyro, unless it's really good as it isn't covered by their insurance etc etc.
