Hey. Last time I went to b & Q and this other big diy store and I could not find any lightweight dowel suitable for a guidence stick on a rocket. What I want is those sticks used for supporting plants. I am going to go to b and q again tomorow in the hope that they have some in stock but if not does anyone know of any online suppliers of such things?

Bamboo blinds do quite a good job but your rocket needs to accelerate fast as they are not heavy enough for a slow acceleration. You could tape a weight to the end of the stick if you wanted a greater turning moment on the stick.

Hobby stores should carry wooden sticks down to super-mini bottle rocket size. Try hobbycraft, or a model shop.

If you obtain the wood (50mm Square pine for instance from a skip etc), Make sure it has no nails or other metal fixings in it and take it to your nearest industrial estate with a factory that does woodworking and slip some a fiver or so, they would probably cut it up to your specified dimensions on the circular saw, (as long as you don't want 50 different sizes). Alternatively, if your budget will allow.

Go to a garden centre and get the green sticks used for supporting plants (sticks - not canes). My local one does two sizes, about 10" and 14". They are light and cheap as chips!!

Try using cattail sticks if you live near a marsh or stream, free from mother nature.

I love it! I can buy a pack of smokes which will hurt me for sure! Yet theres a 1000 laws in place to protect me from myself . I guess its ok to harm your self if its slow and will help the economy.

already cut sticks are too expensive. i just take a 2x4 and cut it down into 5/16x5/16 strips. a whole hell of a lot cheaper.

Has everyone on here bought 'proper' rocket tooling as opposed to making some for themselves? Quotes for proper tools range from 40-100?. I am of the school that says you should use everyday items as a substitute - and I found something that seems to be perfect for the job (?2). Stainless steel is considered non sparking right?
