Has anyone tried any of the coloured magnesium rockets as outlined at www.unitednuclear.com/rocket.htm ?

There is no link to this page from the home page so not sure how I found it.

I assume these rockets have to be pressed but I've been waiting for months for the how to section to become active.

Apparently these rockets are made on standard BP tooling but thats as far as it goes at the moment.

Would anyone know if the Mag powder from Labpak would work? It says 100mesh on the site but I have to say that I have no screens and am not to well up on mesh sizes

Never seen that page before, but there's an article in the Skylighter bulletin archive, with a discussion here:

There is an article in Best of American Pyrotechnist about Mg bottle rockets by John F Glisson. I think I've posted about the white composition before on here. Be careful with the Nitrate/Mg compositions, and they don't perform all that wonderfully, but they are kinda cute.

I am not real sure about posting this short excerpt from BoAP, copyright wise, but it shows what I mean. I suggest you buy the book, in fact all of the AFN series from http://www.fireworksnews.com/ there is some great stuff in them.

I made 100g of the red composition from this article and all I can say is WOW!

I haven't made this into stars/rockets yet and only tested a 1/4 teaspoon pile of composition. It took light from a touchpaper "fuse" which usually indicates it's easily ignitable.

I've never seen such a beautiful deep bright ruby red. Guys, if you can get the ingredients give this one a try. Gonna post the comp in the "star formula topics"
