I fired a 70mm hummer and white star shell last night, which I'm pleased to report actually worked pretty much flawlessly - it burst at just the right height and everything lit, and went out before it landed, and considering the size and burst charge (BP on puffed rice) the break was fine. It wasn't hugely spectacular, but there wasn't anything technically wrong with it (my shells usually burst half a second too early or late, or drop a few sparks on the ground, but this one didn't).

Unfortunately, my Dad didn't quite manage to photograph it. Sorry Regimental!

I?ve just finished my first 6" spherical shell and like to share the results.

total weight: 1 kg
outer stars: 220x tigertail, rolled
pistil stars: 100x green, Mg-based, tigertail primed
other stars: 24x Shimizu golden wave, Zn primed
break charge: BP on corncobs
lifting charge: 50g BP

theres only one question left concerning the willow-stars. did you cook the composition or only ballmilling and then rolling them?

Moe - I?ve cooked the tigertail composition, and after that I ballmilled it again.
Just ballmilling and rolling is the next thing I?d like to test, since I use SGRS.

sasman - after assembling the two plastic hemis I?ve pasted them with 10
layers of kraftpaper.

Wow you are a very good Pyrotechnic builder. Your shells are better than the shells i can buy. Please give me a konstruction plan. If you speak german you also can give me a german konstruction plan because my english is terrible.

Heinz. Thats the best homemade Shell I?d ever seen.

Question: Du you use only the Tigertail mixture to Prime the Stars? I can?t believe that they ignit without a layer of standart Blackpowder.

And the break is obtained without using a flash booster?

That's absolutely amazing Heinz! The symmetry is excellent. Nice photography too, it is difficult enough to make a great shell, but then capturing it to share with others is a big challenge.

Can you detail the priming scheme on the golden wave stars please, you mentioned Zn? I've been using a rather exotic MgAl based prime on mine and I'd prefer something safer and cheaper.

If you take a closer look at the pic, you can see that the pumped silverwaves have a greyish coating on the end pointing to the middle of the shell.

I think, thats the zn priming, isn?t it?!

Probably, I saw that too. I was curious about the details.

Also my golden waves are a silver colour from the Aluminium, those look more like organic colour stars.
