Hi folks, a very interesting lecture going down in Cambridge

Title: Pretty, Pretty, Bang! Bang! - The Science of Fireworks and Explosives
Subject Category: All other (including general chemistry and socials)
Organisers: RSC Mid-Anglia Section
Date: Thursday 03/11/2005
Time: 19.00
Venue:
Venue name: Cambridge University Chemistry Labs
Address: Lensfield Road, Cambridge

I went last year but they forgot to dissable the fire sensors in the theatre.
We had to evacuate, while the fire service made it safe

A little more on it :D

Main themes: This meeting is open to guests
Main speakers: Dr Jacqueline Akhavan (Cranfield University)
Registration fees: free - no prebooking required. Event is a joint one with the CAGE section of the SCI
Organised Social Programme: The ever-popular pyrotechnics lecture, suitable for all ages (note there may be some loud bangs!).
Dr Akhavan will explain the science behind modern fireworks with a series of vivid demonstrations, and will explore what may be possible in the future.
"The Saltpeter is the Soule, the Sulphur the Life, and the Coales the Body of it"

I'm going to this for certain, as I only live 10 mins walk away!
Jacqueline Akhavan has written a rather good RSC paperback on the chemistry of explosives, which was the very first pyrotechnics-related book I bought.
Just to clarify, do we simply turn up on the night, and we can get in- we don't have to be RSC members or anything do we?

Hopefuly I'll see some of you there!

Lord Dannack, Merseyside is a long way to come? I know its more than 10mins, even with my geography?
Myself and Karl will be popping along. Drop me a PM so we know what you look like. We can meet up in the local pub beforehand, If its anything like last year it will be fantastic!
Allways good to meet up with fellow Pyrotechnicians. :D

Sorry- i've not updated my location! In term times I'm in Cambridge.
I'm not (quite) so dedicated a pyro that I'd drive down there for one lecture!
