I am interesting in making a press button ignitor to use with my fireworks. I was thinking a small (1000uf, somewheres around 16v) capacitor linked to a small tactile switch and then leads from that to an electric igniter like those used for model rockets. The igniter would start a 4sec fuse. I was challenged by my parents to come up with a "safe" lighting system, and thought something like this might do (will cost me a fortune in tactile swithes though :D)

look around the forum.. there is a link for home made firing systems and even schematics for a test circuit etc.

You will find you can rig something up that wont cost a fortune either.

those are all made to be reusable, and for setting of displays and such it seems. I want something that I could stick on anything to light it.

An e-match, 25m of Bell Wire and a 9v Battery will do you. With a switch for safety ofcourse.

ah, that's more like what I need, all i have to do is replace the 9v with a capacitator.

still going to need to charge the capacitor... easier to just leave the battery in. It is all well and good to run an e-match with bell wire to fire a single item but if you want to fire several items then one of the firing pannels will be a great benifit and at the end of the day they dont take much more effort than a single firing switch.

We may predomintly use the likes of Fireone and Firelite for displays but believe me the old fashioned firing boards still come out to various shows.

Like many of the people on the forum, you will build a single firing device then will modify it to fire a few more and so on.. before you know it you will have built a 20 cue firing panell :) ... all part of natural progresion.

I don't do shows or anything, so single firing is all I want.

Well if you want to stick to the single fire system then I personaly would just use bell wire with an e-match and a small battery... even a mobile phone battery does the job. Keeps it all nice and simple and adding a cap just complicates things.

Looks a bit too much like a toy to be of much use, but I must say - I'm tempted!

Gives me an idea though, you could probably build one yourself.

That looks really gimmicky. When it says it two attempts at 30m, does that mean it didn't work at 30m so we moved a bit closer!? I think it would be more fun to make your own, and cheaper; ?40 is a hit to the back pocket for something like that!

On a separate point, is that really how much fireworks cost these days??? or is that just a bit of the proverbial extortion!
