cool, i might have a bid, i havent got any. but i expect it might get overpriced by the end.
Question is, how to form it into powder effectively?
would it be brittle enough to put it in a strong bag and shatter it with a hammer?

It is very brittle, you would be able to shatter it with a hammer and the chips that come from this can be put in a ball mill with brass media. However I have found that using a small electric coffee grinder is a quicker way to powder the chips.

That's already pretty expensive, scrap Mg is quite cheap per kg and that is only 100-odd grams. I guess if you don't have/want to make a furnace, or feel confident handling molten MgAl then it is a reasonable price.
