A very warm welcome to the forum, hope you have a nice stay.

Not to bitch you of or anything, but experimenting with flashpowder is serious business and great care should be taken, 2 grams can blow your hand of.
I hope you've made all the necessary precautions for working with flashpowder.

And yes alot of good topics on this forum, read them all, read them all.

Stay green.

Yep im safe. I always use tiny amounts of flash and fuse wire to ignite it. Flash is lethal stuff, I never tend to store it as quite a lot of flash powders can spotinasouly combust (please excuse the spelling!)

Im in to testing thermite compositions at the moment as they are far safer to store, but care must still be taken :D

:D

www.kno3.com is apparently a con, but since i am new too, i dident know better.

dont say the word de**nate on here, or repeat anything that might have been said befour ;)

if you could PM me with some words to avoid, that would also be good.

Welcome,
Though I am only an ordinary member - no admin power - I will suggest ( and I think Richard will agree ) Stop look and listen for a while. View the forum, read the discussions, and learn the board functions the SEARCH function including the search old posts. You will soon learn that the power of explosives to entertain prettily is an acceptable topic and the power of expplosives to cause damage is not a topic for discussion.

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

Hi everyone,

I have been a member here for a while now and an almost daily reader for around a year. I'm 21 and in my 2nd year at uni just now. I have had very little chance to actually do any practical experimenting yet as I only found sources for chemicals after getting the internet on arival at uni. Since then I have been living in cities which don't really make for the best pyro environment. During this time I have been acquiring chemicals, knowledge and spending hours rolling tubes. However I will soon be going home for a month at Christmas to my parents in the country and will be able to start building a mill etc. I have not been posting here due to my lack of experience and view that most of the stuff asked is better answered by those of you have done it many times before. I have however now found a topic that I may contribute on and that may be of use to others so thought I better introduce myself before posting.

Also this is a great forum guys, so much better than most of the other s**t on the net. A lot of you have so much experience in pyro and I have learned a lot from you - thanks.

Ps. you turned me in the right direction - a few years ago if I had got my hands on some conc HNO3 I would have never have dreamed of using it to make strontium nitrate. Luckily I didn't.

Just wondering as this is sort of related but how long have you been into making fireworks or acutally started experimenting with fireworks?

It was in grade 7 for me  I am now going into grade 11 next year! Thats almost 4 years. Wow, I feel so old! Also do you guys remember what got you into this? It was my brother showing me some little sparkler b*mbs as he called them, with the sparklers in a bottle top. Well I just went from there.

Hello richard2

I'm also 21, but I'm in my first year in the uneversity.

You seem to have a lot of things going with the mill and tubes...
Remember that a all(?) of us here have got our experiense by reading books. If you make a mistake in this hoby it might be the last thing you can or whant to do. Not that every thing pyro related is very dangerous.

If you don't have a book on pyro yet I can recomend Shimizu, Lancaster or Best of AFN.
It can be a bit expensive but well worth it. I't is the best sorce of information you can get (next to talk with the guy who wrote it).

I don't post a lot in this forum either because I feel some of the threds are to basic, some are not interesting and some I have not experience in. But this is one of the best forums on the net!
One day I might have the time and energy to post some videos and pics of some shells ;-)
