Am I the only one here that can work with AF charcoal without turning into a gollywog? : )

Loves:

Finest Swedish Gourmet Perchlorate with anti-cake - absoloutly loved the stuff, but cannot find anymore!

Parlon and Chlorowax - they're great for chlorine doning, and they smell lovely.

Magnalium in all its forms - very interesting, pretty, usefull stuff.

Ammonium Perchlorate - a little scary, but some amazing effects can be achieved by using it.

Hates:

Chunky chemicals that need milling before use, and things with worrying MSDS'.

It's a bit of a politically-incorrect reference to 'people of African descent', toys of which were very popular in the Victorian period, and even managed to survive until the early 90s (on marmalade jars anyhow). I suppose it's a bit of an English thing and not one I'm overly fond of.

I am always a bit twitchy when working with any comp. So sometimes when I am scooping the AF it tends to float and get everywhere. Any time I work with AF I have to clean my scale very well. Any else have this problem or am I the only one?

They changed the names of those chocolate biscuits from gollywogs to scalliwags here in Australia.... My mum has a huge collection of little gollywog dolls,....

Put some saran wrap over scale first! everyone has a fun time w/ af!

Great idea! lol cant believe I didnt think of something remotely along those lines.

FINALLY got to whistles today. 70/30 Perc/Na-Benzoate. I already despise the benzoate. What a PITA to screen. Perc went through nice and easy and fluffy, but the Benzoate seemed to love to stick to the screen. Wondering if Potassium Benzoate would produce a similar whistle while being easier to screen?

Potassium Benz produces good whistles too, and is slightly easier to screen. Other chems like this are carbonates, some chlorine donors and cryolite - a PITA indeed!

I don't have that many chemicals I use yet to make pyro effects, but home-made blackpowder is always a hit, simple glucose is quite funny (you can do lots of things with it), and the basic chemical is of course KClO4, which I use in liquefied form in combination with glucose or plain candy. Cant seem to "light" KClO4 like fishy1 said, though...

Be careful with molten KClO3/4 experiments! There is a lot of energy when combined with candy! Also, you can't 'light' KClO4

Favorite pyro chem? Easy: Water! in a bucket, near by.

Least favorite: The ones in the container I failed to label in a timely enough manner. And the Lead that made by brain forget things. And the ones in the container I forgot to label.
