Heading off to Plymouth now for the Fireworks Championships, expect plenty of pics when I return! Our show is the last one to fire on Wednesday.

Hope some of you make it down there to watch! Should be a good one!

I so much wish I had been there but work prevented... It would have been great to see the MLE 'Grand Finale'... Can't wait to see this pics.

I have been amused by the news coverage of the world record attempt by Plymouth Uni at 55,000 simultaneous rocket launches. Seeing the late-firing rockets from the burning rig bombarding the camera crews was priceless.

It seems they might have used the Weingart method of wooden frames (15 apparently) laced with BP and quick matched together to ignite the rockets simultaneously. The world record defines 'simultanously' as 'within 5 seconds' but I'm sure the spread seemed greater, with two distinct audible waves - 10s or so in total... Any thoughts on this? Did they succeed?

I found a crazy amateur video of the rocket launch:

Plymouth rocket launch - too close...

(soundtrack may be NSFW  ) Good stuff...

EDIT: The more I watch this, the more I think it was really bad practise.... Does anyone know if they actually met the record, or just wasted a van full of bottle rockets???
