Whistle comp in stinger rockets

I read somewhere (at least, I think I did) that one can use whistle comp in stinger (spin stabilized) rockets. I did one up using Potassium Perclorate and Sodium Benzoate (70/30) whistle formula. 1lb. rocket (3/4"i.d. x 3.5" long). Used Greg's excellent one pound tooling.

Did I just make a whopping big firecracker :o or do I have a potentially high-powered Stinger rocket? :D

Has anyone done this (sucsessfully)?

What about other propellents for stinger rockets? KNO3 + suger? KNO3 + sorbital? APCP?

I always figured that the side vent would prevent any possible for CATO, but proved myself wrong the other day (I think the grain cracked). Went BOOM, not UP! :rolleyes:

If it has a choke, then you have a firecracker.

It has a choke (nozzle), but very little core and stingers have a side vent to get the rotation. I could swear I read that whistle mix can be used with them, but now I"m not so sure. The 75/15/10 BP meal (white pine charcoal, ball milled 20 hours +/-) works VERY well. No CATO, goes up streight and high. The whistle mix is press under a hydrolic jack.

When the time comes, I'll use a loooong fuse :unsure: and get far away. There's no header on that thing.

PainterAK ( a sometimes poster here ) has made some whistle stingers. Amazing sound, no catos, but somewhat erratic flight paths (!). I'll contact him and see if he wants to post some videos.

Almost looks like it did a back flip at takeoff! LOL

They will work and fly, but as with all stingers, very unpredictible!
