EXCELLENT TUTORIAL KARL ! That answers some nagging questions I had about beraq timing. Excellent job, I mean it.

Hey thanks, I remember what it was like when I would sit down and just think how the hell do they manage it! When I found out I really kicked myself, of course its the casing thickness! Well I have read about them on rec.pyrotechnics but thought I had never ever seen a tutorial about them let alone pictures. I will have to send a copy to my Maltese friends to see what they think and if ive done them justice.

They seem to make the tube longer by pasting the lighter paper only on one side, how do they close the other one. I guess pasting would be out of the question as you already have the delay comp. Do they only use a disc or something?

Some tubes of beraq are not made buy hand are bought... if you like you buy some tubes and you can make the same steps as the tutorial .....the tubes are like this :



or if you want you can make them smaller.. they are called' imsielet' :

Yeah ive seen that before, I dont know why they do that. Looks like they offset it to give more overhang on one side.

I didnt know they bought the tubes, I guess some of the factories will do that but most of them make them by hand. I think its more rewarding to make it all by hand especially when they all work

Really, no idea. Perhaps some of the Maltese who visit us here could explain the reason for punching the fusehole in Beraq *after* they are filled ? It may be that in a large assembly-lin operation there is a time savings, or improved reliability, or ???

I think it's done to improve reliability. If the fuse hole is punched and primed last in the manufacturing process, there is no following manipulations that could close up the hole or damage the powder train or disbond the outer prime layer which would inevitably affect the delay timing. I think this would be more of an issue with beraq made with thinner casings though.

Though I have absolutely no experience in the manufacture of them that would be my best guess. Though that is a LOT of safety to sacrifice for improved timing. I know that is the point of the shell to have different toned reports, but why not see if you could add a bit more binder and make the delay comp more rigid thus, less prone to damage after filling.

Thats interesting, I would believe this to be the reason too. I will stick to my method nut maybe add the outer prime after I have filled the beraq. This will add time to making them but for small batches of 30 or more it will not matter roo much.

When i made beraq for the fest about 1 year ago (when we had where to make them )we always made the delay after we filled them.But Its a very dangeruse procedure and wouldnt racommend it to anyone ..make the beraq as the tutorial said...
