Can anyone here comment on any of the rock tumblers available on manchesterminerals web site i have seen people write about the 'Evans 'Junior' Tumbler' but I would be more interested in the 'Tumble Polisher CR1' as look like it would last longer and similar to the US Lortone tumblers. Or may be you could suggest an alternative tumbler source.

Aren't rock tumblers rather pricey?
I just went down to the scrap yard and picked up an old tumble drier for a fiver. A bit of fiddling with the controls, so that it's either just "on" or "off," and you have a nice sized ball mill, for practically nothing
. Just find a big plastic paint tin or something similar, and wedge it in the drum of the drier with some foam or something, and put whatever you want to mill in the paint tin.
The drum is big enough that you can mill several different things at once, using different containers, or just one REALLY big batch of something!
At the moment I'm milling with river pebbles, they work OK and are free. I'm a little bit worried that they might spark, so I'm milling all chemicals seperately and then mixing them afterwards, but it seems to work OK.
Obviously, this assumes that you have somewhere to put a big, dirty old tumble drier. And it's not quiet. But it's CHEAP
