Hello all!

The events session is again upon us and we have an exciting schedule building up for the year. We intend to post most of it over the next month, but just to get things going, we set up a couple of “meet your UKPS” gathering for the near future.

For those of you who never been in one before, those are simply a gathering over pizza of members from the forums and the UKPS. You will get to meet some of the moderator – and can ask questions about our immediate and future plans. Best of all, you get to converse about pyrotechnic without being worried that the person in the next table will call the police or try to conduct a house arrest :). Past feedback shows that everyone enjoys those meeting and has a good evening out.

So, what are the dates? Due to repeated requests, we are holding the first one in Central London. This will happened on the Wednesday, 2nd of May, in the Pizza Express, 114-117 Southampton Row, London, WC1B 5AA. It’s not the most beautiful pizza express, but it’s central. Wednesday is usually a quieter day, which means we are more likely to be able to reserve a big table if we need too. We will start at 7:30pm, so for those who work and live in and around London – plenty of time to make it there, and we will probably sit down for a good few hours if you want to make it in a bit later.

Second event is to be held in Wales. We fancy visiting some of those more remote members! We did not set a date for that, but the plans are sometime in June, and probably during the weekend. We will want to see that there is an interest in that, so please, if you are a member from Wales who would like to meet up, please drop us a line saying so, and indicate what is the closest major town to you.

As always – please let us know in ADVANCE if you plan to show up. There is no cost involved (except for the food and drink you order), but we need to know how many people are going to show up so we can book our table (and the pizza express in Southampton Row is small). Just drop us a quick Email to events@pyrosociety.org.uk and state your name or forum alias. We will replay to those a few days before the event to make sure you are still coming.

Hope to see you all there!
The Moderation Team

I'm planning to make this.

For those of you who haven't had a chance to attend these meetups, they are really enjoyable, and offer an invaluable chance to natter about all things pyro.

They aren't very formal, tending towards friendly chat rather than anything too structured, but theres usually some pyro goodies to be had as well.

I would urge all of you London/SE based pyros to make this. It's a great opportunity to see what we are all about. All welcome!

All London area members – we have booked a few sits extra to cater for more people, we need to know today or tomorrow at the latest if you are planning to come.

If you are in the area, please do – we want to see as many new faces as we possibly can!

I'm certainly looking forwards to it!

Would it be acceptable for me to bring a few things, obviously no chemicals or compositions, a few star pumps perhaps, or my pocket-sized firing system for a show-and-tell sort of arrangement over pizza? Just something to pass around and get us in a pyro mood!

Thanks for everyone who showed up. It was a nice evening and some lucky individuals made a run for it carrying some oriental looking hemispheres. We have a great talk about legislations, formulation and all things pyro – gulping down a good traditional pyro food…. PIZZA!

Next event is around the corner – information will be posted in the next couple of days. Detailed information will be available under the events clause of the society site.

Great to see some new faces!

Incidentally, to anybody I was discussing those hemis with, I probably totally confused you all with my sizes. Although when packing some stuff to take I grabbed the smallest hemi I could see (and then proceeded to label it a 1"er), I suddenly woke up at 5AM this morning and thought "Hold up, that was a 2" hemi!"
