What is the end product from the reaction? is it metalic copper? I play with normal thermite a lot by self as I have a few hundred pounds of hemitite(iron ore) that I found up north from me in michigan along what was a railroad track my guess is it leaked from a parked train car, there is atlest a ton left. it makes very hot slow bruning thermite thats needs a prime but man what one can do to junk around the house with it

Are you grinding the ore or is it in powder form?

it's a mix of powder and small easy to crush chunks, technicaly it's specular hemitite wich is brittle stuff when the need comes i guess i can ball mill the stuff but as is it's like fine grey sparkly sand i mix it with cheap atomized alumium then use a primer made from indian blackhead and very fine black iron oxide, that stuff burns allmost like flash and it generates the heat to set off the main amount of thermite
