Everyone allways talks about how they used hot glue gun to stick things, however, perhaps it just me, but i find glue gun to be pretty shit at sticking anything but paper.
Im i using the wrong stuff?

Im using bostik standard glue sticks.

thanks

It depends on the glue sticks, the clear ones work well but i have some yellow ones here that are superb (aside from the fact it takes 15mins to cool down and harden)

oh.
That 15mins sounds good to me. The ones im using set almost instantly. dont get me wrong, I like quick drying glue as much as the next pyro, but not when your trying to cover a large surface in one go.

Where did you get your yellow sticks from?

thanks

I got mine from a hardware store, they are a fair bit longer and seem tougher

Found a place that sells them online (dont know about international shipping)

One thing with hot glue is that many people are impatient with it and try to stick stuff as soon as they can force it out the nozzle with the trigger however it's not really hot enough at this point as it has started to set before it even reaches the thing you want to glue! Best way to tell when it's really hot enough is just leave the gun switched on on the bench and when the glue starts freely dribbling out the nozzle without you having to touch the trigger, then it's hot enough.
If it looks like it's coming towards you, it probably is!

A trick I find useful sometimes is to warm the piece you're applying the glue to with a hairdryer/heat gun (obviously DON'T do this if it contains composition) to reduce the cooling rate. Getting the right glue is important though, RS components have quite a good range.

Personally i find the black sticks to be the best all rounders. The clear ones are very flexible and soft, the yellow ones are really hard, but the black one are in between. Very sticky and fairly hard, but also flexible. I just bought a box from of 25sticks for peanuts from CPC, but they were on special offer at the time, not sure if they still are. But theyre not expensive anyway. You can get them anywhere B&Q etc.

I went to bandq and all they had was clear glue sticks.
I bought some anyway, and it would appear that they are much better than the glue sticks(from staples) i was using before.

thanks
