Best start is to read a lot of books. And search this forum, there are other people that have been helped starting ou, maybe you'll get some ideas there.

BP is safe if you're careful, but even easier would probably be a simple somke device. Or a candle, you cant go wrong with a candle

By candle do you mean a wax candle or a roman candle?

I'm also new to pyrotechnics, my advice would be to set out a plan of what you want to do and then research it.

Work your way up gradually, eg: master smoke mix, then BP, then roman candles, then rockets, then flash etc... That's the sort of plan I have.

You can use hobbychem, or pyrosupplies.moonfruit.com
There's also eBay and if you need a lot you could buy a 25KG bag from Garden Direct.

www.inoxia.co.uk,there excellent!.I also wouldn't put flash so early on in your plan (i'm no authority on it AT ALL,i'v never made it and don't plan to anytime soon),flash is an advanced mix and in my eyes should be the last comp you experiment with. The progression should go something like...BP,fountains,drivers,wheels,rockets,stars,candles....If your read/search you will find :P

Indeed - I can't fault Inoxia so order what you can from them first of all. Hobbychem are expensive but can occasionally provide small samples of interesting chems.

All this info is here on the forum - search and you will find :)

www.gardendirect.com is good for the basics, and rangeroffire, I can't help but feel your sig should be rearranged with flashpowder slightly further along

OK, it doesn't change the fact that i've tested it and it wasnt that powerful (loose in a tube, around 0.2g). I've tried whistle mix but all it did was burn really fast...

I think it would be quite hard to try roman candles without first having tried stars ;)

Obviously  You could go...Stars,mines, (Expect a 50mm bag mine shortly) but single shot candles (star guns) are the best way to go :P

Well i think after all that i will dump the idea of flash. If experts say its too dangerous i think i will follow the flow.I have just made a order of garden direct so thanks for that info. :D
