I`ve had a look through this section and there seems to be nothing about Rocket Cars?
so, is it just me and my friends (including my wife) that builds and races these, or is everyone here on the Vertical Y axis only?

I`de love to hear of your records set and design ideas, Pictures would be Fantastic too!

there`s a Lot to be said for rocketry on the X axis too ya know! B)

aha NICE! and Thanks, I`ve never heard them called "Gliders" before, to me that implies Aloft and flying.

I guess that renders this thread somewhat redundant now ?

EDIT: Nope it doesn`t, it Is on about Gliders (flying) and not cars, so the Thread topic remains.

anyway, I`ll post a few pictures of my Hunk-a-Junk a bit later, did anyone see the Techno-Olympics a few years ago, they had a Rocket car catagory too, Perfectly Fascinating!

yes i remember the techno-olympics (what was the name of that cool but slow rope climbing robot) those rocket cars where great, would there be rules and regs on the rocket motors size they used, would they all be the same and the rest down to car design, i think they would frown on a homemade 6lb motor  its a good way of "testing motors"would it be classed as letting off fireworks?

yeah, the way we do it in our competition is that Each person is issued with a factory made identical engine, since we don`t have a way to clock Speed, it`s whos car goes the the greater distance (while remaining on the road!), then we chalk mark each stopping position.

it Sounds a bit boring I know, but you really should be there! we`ve had some fantastic "acrobatics" some more graceful than others, I hold the winning car by the way! (just thought I`de add that).

the funniest is actually running out of road! I had one hit the curb, flip into the air a good 8 foot and buckled the 1 inch dia duralumin tube to a zig-zag Bulge and snap the solid steel back axle that was 4mm thick!

I think the Robot was called Skelletor.

not for car`s no, as metal is permitted in their structure and as you can imagine, a CATO would be potentially disastrous.
I have tried sky rockets several times (with little success) and Rocket Boats (these are Great) you can make a low thrust long burning engine for boats and it`s also on water in case anything went wrong.
I gave up making my own rocket engines and fuel many years ago as an accident occurred when 2 kilos of fuel over 7 engines ignited indoors for no Apparent reason.

that`s an example of Stupidity and how NOT to dry out rocket engines!

I`ll post a pic of the car a bit later when I get 5 mins.

I can, and no I`m not sharing it, it`s Dangerous, and also it IS mentioned on here (a few times) what NOT to mix with what, I will say that you`ll get away with Sulpher and chlorate for quite a while, until one day!

then you`ll wish you`de done more research! I was living in a High Rise at the time too, NOT CLEVER!

anyway, back to topic, Rocket Cars :)
