Fountian Question

Today i made about 100 basic fountians none very succesful, i used a KN03 + Sugar +Charcol compound but when i lit it it only smoked very violentally. I know KN03 + Sugar is a smoke composition, but also burns very strongly. My goal was to have it spray the charcol and aluminuminto the air and have sparks fly down from the sky. I have sulfur comeing soon perhaps i will have better results from the other fountian on the website i found the designs on. You can read it Here What reason could it have not worked?

If you don?t tell us how you tried to make the fountain (the procedure), we can?t really help you. Did you ball mill the ingredients? Did you ram it into the tube? Was the tube choked?
In any case, your composition will not work as a fountain. (Or it will as a very poor one). Wait for the sulphur, Then try better composition like Tom?s 24 Kno3, 4 S, 4 C and 10 Fe.

We don't think your questions are stupid. We just thought they were very dangerous. It's good to see your willing to work on something less nasty.
You are going to need sulfur. A basic fountain comp is just modified black powder. If the sulfur is omitted from either it just won't go right. Sugar is a fuel. Sulfur is a catalyst. They are not interchageable. Don't get in the habit of substituting one thing for another. It's a REAL bad idea.
Did you use the choked case design?

I Ball milled the compounds then rammed them into a cardboard tube then chocked the top with clay. It was an impressive smoke show, burned for 5 minutes and was really black

Just call it a smoke fountain and it's a complete success. Your still gonna need sulfur.
