hi

i have a pyro torch but dose anyone know how to make them and dose any one have a formula i could use that could include potassium nitrate :blink:

I had a look on google for pyro torches and they're a kind of colourful flare? It would be very easy to do a simple one - potassium nitrate and sugar in a thin tube is quite bright. Adding in magnesium or aluminium would also make it much brighter. Have a look at some of the star formulas as these will give you a good idea as to what compositions give good colours. Some of these formulas may even be suitable as they are.

how would i get not a lot of smoke but a goog flame i maneged to do it once but out of luck with kno3 and sugar

try kno3 1 copper oxide 1 charcoal 1 =blue flame
or for showers of sparks (that hurt when they land on you and make pretty little holes in clothes !!) try kno3 24 charcoal 4 sulphur 4 iron filings 10 if you use copper oxide never put it in a composition containing aluminium powder look under gerbs and torches for further info

That wont burn hot enough to produce coloured flame. the only KNO3 based blue flames are anitmony trisulphide fueled or zinc fueled, and they use the term blue loosely, the only reasonable way to get a decent blue flame is to use a hotter more powerful oxidiser such as potassium perchlorate or chlorate, but not so hot that it destroys the colour producing copper chloride ion. Also there is no chlorine donor in that formula so I doubt you would see even a hint of blue.
You can never have a long enough fuse...

it came from magic with chemistry chapter 7 coloured fires i will give it a try tomorrow your definately right about the chlorine donor

I hate that book, it seems at least 50% of the formulas it provides are not working. :( :angry:

tonight i tried the formulation i posted from magic with chem -pyromaniac 303 is absolutely right sorry ive posted crap!! it doesnt even burn in a worthwhile manner i tried chlorine donor then put it into a fierce air stream whilst burning to simulate an ejected star included some coarse charcoal and hoped if that came white hot in air stream i might make a blue flame but not a chance the author was obviously a good magician or prize bullsh*t artist sorry everyone i vet internet material but made the mistake of trusting this book
