A good effort mate. I dub thee the Mini Shrike II (the actual Mini Shrike exists). A very worthy piece of kit. Now just add 3 more channels, a line test facility, a few 100 more volts and make it waterproof and you'll be making BDL nervous. Why not drill a little hole and put a piece of plastic over so you can use the 'charged' indicator?

Welcome Adam, I thought you were going to flog him one :-)

BTW: Nick, You've done an excellent job, If you could find a moulded case with recessed button holes it would be a very good shrike-style exploder.

I want to build one from scratch just for the hell of it, then see how it performs next to my shrike unit.

Maybe we should setup an exploder enthusiasts collectors club :) If anyone is interested we could setup a militaria forum.

There is no way i can thank you properly nick. i would never have thought of using a camera flash unit as a power supply. You conveniently posted this on the day i was going to make my 10 shot firing panel. The power supply i was using wasnt powerfull enough to go through 14 meters of wire and still be able to set off the igniter. as soon as i read this post i went down to the shops and bought a disposable flash camera, took it home and began to assemble my firing panel. 4 hours later i had completed it and i couldnt be more happy with the results! I now have a 10 shot firing panel which has more than enough power to set off the igniters :) Once again, thankyou, youve made a young man happy *tear comes to eye* lol

Looking through a few electronic enclosure catalogues it seems that cases with recesses for mounting switches in are not easily available. However there is a company called Apem that makes some nice pushbutton switches that have a protective ridge around the outside of the button to prevent inadvertent operation, they even do a version with a little hinged cover over the top. The switches are IP65 sealed too. They're called the A01 series, and are available from CPC in Preston (cpc.co.uk). Not completely cheap at a fiver and a bit, but do the job.
