Garden stakes (hardwood or bamboo), even if the stick is a bit bent they still fly fairly straight.

Kebab skewers, you can find thicker and longer ones if you need.

You know you are a pyro when you go to B&Q (diy.com) see bamboo plant sticks and look for the rocket casings next to them!

I have used dried bullrush or cattail shoots. They are usually quite straight and grow almost anywhere there is water (lakeshores,ponds roadside ditches...)
