Just messing about with molten lead! Found spheres hard to form but 3/4 dia cylinders easy -just fill a tube with lead and tear the tube off!

Has anyone any real experience of ball milling with lead rods 3/4 dia and 3 inches long?

In what size of mill? That really plays a key role to how well it will work. I think those are too long to be very efficient. There is such a thing as a rod mill, but those arn't going to cut it for that type of process. They should be roughly spherical, IE as long as they are wide approximatly. Media of that side will tend to cascade poorly due to their lengths.
