And now to make this post relevent. If you watch the news you will have heard about the new internet worm that will attack Microsoft tonight. If you are 'computer literate', you can find out more about the worm Here because BBC breakfast news gave no info on it. To find out if your vunrable, Click Here. If that link doesnt work, click the first one, then scroll down to where it says ShieldsUP!, click the link and then scroll to the bottom and it will have a silver button that displays Common Ports and click the link.
Now, you are looking for port 135 in the list. If next to it it says Open, your computer is vunrable to attacks. If it says Closed, then you should be OK and if it says Stealth (like mine and the rest of my ports) you dont have to worry at all because that means you dont exist. If you want more info on port 135, Click Here.
So, you have done the test and found that you are vunrable-what do we do. Well, for a start you get a good firewall. Click Here and click Home/Office products on the left. Once the new page has loaded, click Zone Alarm under the Home/Office Products link. Scrol down to about half way and find the download link. once the download is finnished, install Zone Alarm! Once it is installed, read the guide (recommended). There, now your computer is a lot safer. If you know how to, turn on the built in Windows Firewall to help. I am not sure how to in Win9X or me but I think Win 2000 and NT are the same as XP so go to Control Panel, Network Connections, then right click and click properties on your current connection then clickt he Advanced tab and turn on Internet Connection Firewall.
If you want help with Zone Alarm or something just PM me.
