Just as the title says- would the Pyro Society consider organising firing meets? IE finding a suitable location where members can come together and fire off some fireworks.

I'd be happy to pay a fee to cover site costs and insurance costs if needed.

Basically, something similar to those organised through the boards.

The issue, of course, is finding the space and time.

But yeah, anyway, thats a suggestion maybe.

I know that CAMRA organises pub crawls, The Ricky Hatton fan club organises pub crawls trips to Ricky Hatton fights , The Fortean Society organises pub crawls nights in haunted houses etc.

So yeah- why not ?

Up until 2005 I had an ideal site a converted farm with its own land- almost perfect (albiet in the far North of England) - but now thats gone I struggle to find a good place to let of fireworks. I'm sure others are in the same position- so centrally organised meets, between verified members- might be a useful idea.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I got some PMs- I think my suggestion was mis-interpreted slightly- I wasn't actually suggesting/requesting a meet up in the near future. Just to be clear- this is a suggestion- a topic for discussion. Do you think its a good idea, a bad idea, a flawed idea. Share your thoughts! :D

So to put to in a sentence- Would the Pyro society consider organising and hosting regular meet ups at which members (possibly for a fee) could let off Consumer (cat 2 and 3) fireworks?

Yeah- its a good idea! For me personally, it will depend on work- but yeah- the review night should be great. Fireworks crazy stock some really nice fireworks- and what better than a chance to see them all for free!

I don't think the question is whether we can organise social gatherings; the question is how we can help our members to go about organising their own events. The forum I think is already a fantastic example of this. With hundreds of regular users and over 42,000 posts, we are clearly one of the more established online networks in the fireworks and pyrotechnics community. We facilitate a means of connecting like-minded individuals so that they can share in their interests.

One of the features in the members area will be an events calendar. It will be possible to publish events, invite fellow members, and keep track of who might be turning up and when. I think it is much better to encourage people to organise these often enjoyable meetings off their own bat, and help them where we can.

Cool.

For me personnally, what I can always offer is to come along and bring Cat 2 and 3 stuff, as long as the site is suitable and private.

I can also get insurance that fully covers public liability (as long as conditions are conformed with) if required.

Professionally speaking, I'm an experienced teacher and trainee driving instructor, so if anyone requires anything like a lecture maybe let me know if I could help. :D

I've been looking into useful locations- I think village halls are a decent bet. They typically have parking, cooking space and meeting space and also usually have decent ground on which fireworks can be fired. They are generally happy for people to use pyro as long as it is set off and finished within a reasonable time frame, IE not more than half an hour. Depending on the region and the sort of events they typically are hired out for, some have fireworks quite often, for example weddings.
