I assume some of you may have already seen this, but amongst the collection of Titanic artifacts recently for sale are a number of Pyrotechnics.
In 1912, Ships used a combination of rockets, flares and Roman candles to alert other ships when they were in danger. A good (and historically verified) account comes from the Captain of the Carpathia, the ship that rescued the passengers from the Titanic.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, there are a number of pyrotechnics available for auction. These include Cunard Roman candles from the era, verified pyrotechnics from the Carpathia, and (most interestingly) pyrotechnics from the Titanic herself. I am unsure of the condition of the Titanic’s items , but one can assume that they are from items taken in lifeboats (which in many ways is totally logical), rather than from the sunken ship herself!
Apparently , there has also been found a flare, sealed in watertight and waxed packaging, from the ship herself. They estimate that this will sell in the region of $1 000 000- $3 000 000. Bare in mind that an unopened wine bottle from the Titanic was recently sold for $1 400 000 at McCloskey brothers auction house, Baltimore.
If anyone wants to make a bid, this is probably the most valuable pyrotechnic in the history of the world!

Perhaps not a tradition in Denmark! In England its traditional to play jokes and pranks before midday on April 1st. There are often joke news items, in fact every paper will probably have one today.

Shouldn't this thread be in the "Firework Nostalgia" section?
