While looking around eBay for some DIY parts I found this seller who seems to be selling the basic Chinese firing boxes (minus the box)

http://cgi.ebay.com....1742.m153.l1262

For roughly $16 I might as well give it a shot, anyone have any experience?

Cheers

I have several of those. There are few posts concerning them in the Pyro tools section, I think. Generally, you will hear many people recommend strongly against them(or any chinese systems for that matter.) These units have(or at least used to have) mechanical relays which are touchy to impacts, meaning any connected and 'armed' cues can go off by impact. This is a safety issue everyone using one should be aware off. Personally, however, I think that these are just excellent for small scale pyro. Taking basic safety precautions, you should not put yourself in a situation where your own safety depends solely on the unit you are using in the first place. With a litle cautiousness is mind, those units can prove very handy for remote firing.

I got one for testing stuff etc., but had a few problems with the relays failing. It's not beyond the wit of man to replace them with some MOSFETs though.
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

I don't think I will be making anything powerful enough to physically jolt the relay contacts :)

Although as above, its not to hard to replace them with a mosfet or solid state relay.

I´ve got one of the 4 channel momentary units without relays.
I´ve put together a 12V driver for proper gate-source-charge (fast switching) with
a BUZ11 power MOSFET. Works a treat and is alot safer than relays!

If anyone is curently sourcing parts for a firing system I have just had to buy far more screw down terminals than I wanted to get a discounted price. I have therefore 30 sets of red and black (speker type) screw down terminals available that will be going on ebay if no one wants them.

Ive also got hundreds of the small red press to make buttons and Superbright red leds that are commonly used too if anyone is interested.

Ill be putting my old firing ox up for sale soon too. If you want a part completed hard wired system with all the remaining components included please email me. It has 16 channel and 7 cues per channel with cabling made up for about 100m of extentions. Its about 1/2 completed and is easily completable by anyone with a soldering iron who would just need to mirror the completed side. All safety switches and wiring are complete as is the continuity checking circuitry. Ill simply be looking for the cost of the components for it. Please have a look at my old website for all the pictures
