but not the massive stuff of years gone by

Given the new packaging that some firms have adopted there is NO difference in performance for this years rockets :)

Ah, sorry I should have made that clearer. I was meaning the rockets of the early 90s. The biggest rockets that have been available over the last few years don't seem quite as good.

OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I would just like to add my 10cents worth here, taken from a British web site.

Press Release On Big Rockets (05/07/08)
Many of you may have heard some news regarding Big Rockets in recent months. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the situation regarding this, and how _____ Fireworks have developed a solution to help retailers.
Firstly, Big Rockets have not been banned! There have been no changes in the consumer regulations, so they are not illegal. However what has changed in the default classification for big rockets. Rockets which are either greater than 20g net powder weight (including rocket motor) or contain any quantity of Flash powder as a bursting charge are now automatically classified for transportation and storage purposes as 1.3G.
What does this actually mean? Well it’s pretty simple, if you have a 250kg license for storage and you place one item which is classified as 1.3G in that store, then your storage weight is reduced to 100kg!
DON’T PANIC. _______ Fireworks have been consulting with HSE & Trading Standards to develop our own solution to this problem. We have spent almost 2 years developing a packaging solution which allows our big rockets (some as big as 200g net powder weight) to be transported and stored as 1.4G, leaving retailers with their storage weights unaffected.
However that’s not the complete story, unlike some other solutions, our big rockets are shipped as “packs” containing either 2 or 4 rockets, and these packs do not have to be opened to sell to consumers, the retailer simply hands over the unopened pack. This means that retailers do not have to break the integrity of the outer, unlike some other manufacturer’s solutions which risk the rockets becoming 1.3G when opened ! It also means that the consumer can keep the pack sealed for up to 21 days before use (as stated in MSER), unlike some other solutions where the rockets would have to be used within 3 days!

It's interesting to see that you can keep the consumer pack sealed for up to 21 days before use. In reality it would never happen.

I doubt there are many on here who would go out and buy a pack of 3 or 4 big rockets and not be able to take a peek inside as soon as they got them home.
Organisation is a wonderful trait in others

No one will wait 21 days before opening a firework. Any governmental body that thinks people will are just dam right thick and live in a dream land. The whole of MSER is a laugh and a complete joke.

Pffft ok rant over :)

Just to clear this up- there seems to be a lot of people (not here- but a surprising number of retailers) who think commercial big rockets have be banned. That simply isn't true- its all about storage and transportation.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)
