Looks like Men Shun are planning to bring in a lot of new lines this year, and have re-designed their selection boxes and barrage packs. I would assume that more or less their entire range has been altered to keep in line with the new regs.

Some of the cheaper new stuff looks very interesting, but the bigger stuff appears (on paper) to be questionable value for money.

Looks like they are actually attempting to say what the firework DOES in the description- eg " A rich winter scene of red, blue, green leaves followed by golden and silver fish. A really beautiful firework producing effects that will linger in the memory for an eternity. "

For years their descriptions were comically pointless nonsence.

Men Shun's style in the past was always mixed effects from one firework- looks like they are continuing that.

OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

LOL

most fireworks leave a great deal to the imagination name wise and play more into the selling role than anything

Firstly hello! Welcome! B)

Ah sorry, I was talking about their catalogue descriptions rather than the names of the individual fireworks.

But yeah- I agree- some other other brands were just as bad.

I don't object to a bit of humour, of course, - its just good to be given an accurate description of what the firework does as well. EG I have a Men Shun candle "Stealth Bomber" - the name implies a bang effect, the catalogue description just says they are popular. Turns out its actually a low noise pearl candle.

Also they did a barrage "Night Hawk" as part of a barrage pack -turns out it was actually identical to their "Flaming Fireballs."

thats why you will find at Epic Fireworks virtualy everything they sell is viewable as a video either online before you get there or actually at the shop on thier computer , sadly there isnt many fireworks that actually tell you what they do on the lable i guess cos the average dad in his back garden isnt bothered , if it looks good and cost "x" amount thats all hes bothered over

only enthusiasts want to know the effects and bore size and timings etc

Indeed- some other shops do that too- which is excellent, and very helpful. The best, I think, is the Firework Emporium who actually use all footage from their own demo nights which can be downloaded directly.

Likewise the UKFR has a lot of good, reliable footage and reviews, although some brands more than others.

Some companies are in the habit of firing multiple items and not making that clear, though! As Borat would say- Naughty Naughty!

3/4 of the footage on Epics site is thier own footage from thier own firings (i know cos i did the filming) it would be nice to be able to download thier videos but the bandwidth costs would be through the roof, they did have the odd dvd last year though that they handed out with quite a few of thier range on it , maybe they will do the same again this year

i know Epic have some videos on thier site with multiple items fired however buyers are made aware of this when they phone to place an order or turn up at the shop and view them there

Ah- I was meaning a Men Shun demo night, similar to the one organised by Brothers, Standard etc where people from various firework shops come- But an Epic demo night would be good too!

What they are doing is... interesting. They are totally changing some lines, eg the "Inferno Sound." This used to be a 19 shot titanium airbomb, now its a large, lingering burst cake. However, the packaging remains identical. So in fact a new ( and in fairness, pretty decent) effect, but badged exactly as the old airb0mb.

I hadn't noticed before, but Men Shun actually write the year on the packaging- basically 2006 means old spec (good) 2007 means new spec (not so good.)

The new Doomsday Detterant for example is weak. I get the impression that 2007 stock was a bit of a rush-job, changing old pieces from flash to blackpowder without changing the packaging. EG blockbuster, which used to be an airbomb, is now (or rather, the 2007 version) is now little colour bursts.
