Well worth checking out! It used to be the amateur Championships, but has involved (only) pro companies since 2004. There is also another display at the end, from MLE - so 4 displays in all. Also a lantern launch this year, and a bar, picnics etc! Should be a nice evening.

There is a nominal competition, you can vote by text but there isn't a prize- I think the competition aspect is just like an added-extra. Ie , its not really about who is the "best" , its more of an entertaining evening generally. I might be wrong on this, but I think its the same companies every year that compete, MLE, Spitfire, Celebration and another one- I think Pyromania.

Personally, I do like the idea of a competition, but I think it would be better (although I'm sure it is too complicated) if you could rate each display, rater than just vote for the one you think is the best.

If I remember correctly, although it may have changed, they have a "free" seating policy, rather than chairs/stands etc. So you can sit anywhere, but bring camping chairs!

Date is August 2nd, its £15 per person.

The only small issue is that leaving these events traffic can get rather snarlled up- very frustrating if you have a long drive ahead. Personally, I get very uncomfortable in crowds.

Sounds great! I'll do my best to check out as many as possible. Combermere is actually best for me, as its nearer where I live.

Actually this isn't hard at all to do, but it might cause confusion on the night. We developed the SMS voting system in house. We currently text back all who vote with the results, and were considering a live web feed to show the real time results... but I guess anyone who cares about the results will be onsite!

Lots of neat and clever things are possible...

Hope you can all make it to any of the events, it's going to be a good evening no matter which you come to, we have some excellent display teams. This year also sees what's possibly another UK first!... a computer fired demonstration explaining the firing system and fireworks with music and a short finale display tying together everything in the demo.

Congratulations to MLE Pyrotechnics for this weekends event at Belvoir Castle.
Great show by all involved, despite the weather.
Hope to see you all, 2 August at Stanford Hall, and 9 August 2008 at Combermere Abbey.

Don't often do this, (camera's are too expensive ), but the chase sequence we were firing back and forth I thought might look good filmed close from the side, Few nice moments .... Frontage was 150m, 11 sites + 3 main back sections left - middle - right (for perspective the bigger tubes on the right are 150mm),

Ground Zero MLE

This is what the first piece looked like from the front..
