I would search for a pyrotechnic training course ( try google for UK pyrotechnic training course or whatever country your in ) then sign up for it, The courses we have in australia usually cost around 5 grand, Once you pass this course and get a liscence for watever area you were trained in. Now go to a pyrotechnic company of some sort and ask for a job, they will be less reluctant if you have a liscence. Or maybe even ask he people who trained you if you could get a job with them training pyrotechnicians. The training course isnt really all that necesary if your trying to work at a display company as they do free on the job training...... if they accept you. Thats a rough outline, but hey, what would I know, I'm just a kid

the way i got into it was, my wife and I were at a show sitting in the field and watching the fireworks and she got hit in the head with 1/2 the broken shell, she wasnt hurt but i wanted an excuse to get up and close to the firing area. so after the show was over i took the peice of shell up to the people firing the show and told them what had happened and that i wasnt mad because it hit her but upset that it was able to land were the spectators were. then asked him what company they were from and if they were looking for help almost in the same breath. they said yes in my area and i was garentied at least 8 shows in my area plus if i wanted to travel 1 and a half hours a week to do a show, only as an apprentace for 8 shows though then they would sign the form for me to be licenced. i got lucky in that way. the other company i do work with but only 1 show a year i did security work for them 1 year and gave them a hand setting up, basicly just running miles of cat5 cable well making sure everybody stayed away from the firing area, now mind you, we were on a break wall in oswego on lake ontario, like anybody was going to come out there. made my day go by real quick. at the time to fire them i caught theire boat back to the land and watched the show from were they had the laptop set up to control the show and i asked if they wanted help the next year setting up, gave them my number and 2 weeks later they invited me to come and visit there factory in long island. it was awesome. a very imotional event as i pulled up to the gates at this place. as i walked in the main door to the factory it was like pyro heaven. i thought i had died. they gave me a tour of the place and a free t-shirt and hat and was told to were them the next year to the show. that was there way of inviting me to work with them. its sweet. ok now that im done babbling just read the first part. hehehe good luck!
