Just thought you people may like to know that willow charcoal powder is available here,
pretty much airfloat as far as I can ascertain. It is not listed on on the website online store at the moment, but I phoned the other day.

It is £30.00 for a 2kg tub + about £7.50 carriage. These people already supply it for pyro use and it seems to be the dogs dangly bits as far as quality is concerned. It may be a bit dearer than e-bay etc, but at least you know this stuff is already suitable for pyro use.

I can say that yes it is "OK" for pyro use BUT I had some to test a while ago and found it to be slightly slower than my home made Willow charcoal, its from art charcoal sticks so I believe slightly over heated during processing to aid that use.

I will say the price isnt bad as my home made stuff works out more costly to someone buying it from me due to the huge work involved in its manufacture, I have however about 9kg of willow just in that was made for me by a local charcoaler especially for me so if anyone wants any to test too say hi. If you need it airfloat I can run it through the mill too.

Reading Urbanski recently he has a whole topic on the temperature of charcoaling. He found that it does matter!

Davis gives BP charcoal as 13% organics and the organics are important to the burn.

This is where i pick up my willow charchoal when i am in the area, and i can certainly vouch for the quality.
Particle size is roughly 20 mesh to airfloat.
If you are in the area they are happy for you to collect from the shop.
