Just though I would let everyone know about a bizarre set of circumstances that was too close for comfort!

I went out tonight with a car laden with rockets to test ,as I dont like to let to many off in the garden as the neighbours might start to wonder, I went for a 10 min drive to a "quiet lane"

There is only a farm at the bottom and a dead end so no through traffic and a nice cut out well before the farm leading into a field, great spot used it a couple of times.
After three sucessfull launches the fuse died on the fourth , so being a good lad and not going back to a lit firework I sat in the car and waited and waited.
After 5 mins I decided it was safe to have a look, so I got out of the car and approached my giant launch tube. I wasn't sure but thought I heard voices but carried on attempting a re-fuse only to be blinded by a search light from the field behind.
Realising there were people in the field behind me I decided to make a sharp exit! and drove off looking through my rear view mirror I could see two people running towards my car as I was driving away :o but thought no more about it and went to look for another site to carry on.

This proved to be more difficult than first thought and eventually I got myself In a tight squeeze down a dirt track (I have an estate car) Having completed a three point turn in nine points I heard a slight noise from the front of the vehicle but drove on heading back towards the first field only to see a police car on the bend. Just then a most horrendous noise came from the front of my car and the two police officers jumped in their car in pursuit of me!

I thought of trying to loose them but decided to pull in to a nearby side road and immediatley jumped out looking under the front of my car at a plastic sump cover that had become detached and had been acting like a snow plough dragging along under the car as the police car pulled in behind!

They had heard the noise and followed me to find out what it was.

You can imagine what was going through my mind knowing what an arsenal of homemade rockets I had in the boot  Then one goes to get his torch to have a look but as sheer luck would have it he got another call on his radio and did a runner.

I can't bring myself to think what would of happened if he had have wanted to look in the boot (I could be in a cell by now)

Be carefull where you let your fireworks off, Even in the most deserted places there is allways someone else not far away!!!! It could be the police!

There are two scary points in that event.
1.The filth coming after you.
2.Waiting for the firework to light.
I hate waiting for a firework to go off, Just hate it!
Quite a luck escape and I dont suppose you will be lighting anything again for a while. How many rockets were in your car?

I think that they were in the field looking for someone(not me I dont think) it was a bit fast for that.

It was unfortunate timing and the fact the cover fell off the car (which wouldnt of happened if I hadn't had to run off in the first plce) and made the noise to attract attention to me.

I didn't have much left, but I guess it would have been enough for some questions and further investigations. If I had have used them all and been pulled then no evidence.

I guess they could still charge me with letting fireworks off in a public place, however responsible the original idea was to do them in an open space.
