I havn't heard anything official about this, I read on another (non pyro) forum, from a reliable poster, than it is going to be illegal to take live fireworks onto trains. This is due to the "security situation."

Has anyone heard about this? My guess would be that it simply results from a mixture of rumour, and perhaps a little bit of confusion. There certainly have been discussions about some form of security on trains, similar to that on aircraft. And fireworks, as we all know, are prohibited on planes. Alterntivly, the confusion could have arisen because of regualtions that (might) limited the transportation of fireworks as goods on trains. I don't know the current legislation regarding that.

My best guess, and it is just a guess, would be that someone has heard that new regulations means that fireworks can't be transported by rail, and has got a little mixed up, taking that to mean that passengers will be prohibited from carrying fireworks when using trains.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

I would have thought that fireworks weren't allowed on trains anyway, by that I mean carrying them in passenger cars.

Carrying large amounts in cargo holds would come under COTIF, the regulations governing the carriage of dangerous goods by rail 2007.

Last time I looked at this (and it was a long time ago) the limit was 2Kg NEQ of 1.4G only - so something like a medium sized selection box or 4 large 19s cakes.
