just noticed you mentioned the use of lead balls from a fishing shop....

in my opinion....thats a no-go.....

2 reasons....firstly they have a hole in them.......not a problem on its own, but for long term use, id rather not have holes in the balls.

secondly....most fishing tackle made with lead is now coated...im sure its a form of epoxy......it may cause static issues....

im sure someone else on here will clarify this for you.

I'm no expert on milling media, but I can tell you that the balls used in muzzle loading are very soft. For my own media I used my ML ball moulds but cast the balls using type metal which is much harder (lead/antimony alloy). Hope this helps!

Not sure whether they're not generally used, but Lead/Antimony muzzleloader balls are available. I have some and they work just great; roughly 7% Antimony IIRC.

I'm pretty certain they're not normally used, they'd be too hard. Perhaps for some special application though. I've never come across them and I've been doing it awhile (he said, creaking back to his rocking chair...) ;-)

If I want lead/antimony, I use old type metal.

how much did you order, out of interest....

when i first started, i ordered a kilo........looked like quite alot.....

didnt last me longer than a day.

made some large smoke screens for a friend who does paintballing.......

then made some small flashbangs for the same person.....

made some rockets for myself....

next thing i know, i have none left.

I only ordered 500g. Didn't dare order any more, the wife might have something to say if i ordered a 25K sack

So are these fishing weights not up to scratch for a ball mill?
The last time I went fishing they were just plain old lead balls. I must be getting old
