Rock tumblers are not exactly ideal...

How much do you want to spend and how much do you want to mill?

You won’t find a dedicated BP ball mill anywhere that I know of apart from Phill, the closest you will get to it is a Thumlers Tumbler from (http://www.hobbyhors...yro_tubes.shtml) they do ship to the UK. Far better to make your own if you can, it can be made quite cheaply I use 12 v DC direct geared motor with 4” barrel with lifters and will mill 100g efficiently

You will have to be a little patient, and keep looking at ebay. I picked up my mill motor along with a variable speed controller for less than £20. It is plenty powerful enough, and much less likely to burn out than the cheap stone polishing jobbies

Phew that was close.

Hmmm, what is the motor from, just so I can get an idea for what to look for on ebay or around places?

It would appear to be a standard frame size motor and would have been expensive new. I will take a picture of it later and post it on this thread. I have seen other similar packages come up on ebay and I do not look that often.

There is a DC motor on ebay at the moment which would fit the bill Clicky Clicky. It is a bit on the pricey side though considering the extra packaging charges he is asking (unless you are close enough to pick it up). You would of course need a proper controller with this for speed control, or not if you just do it with gearing.

Thanks for that, its in my potential motor list :] Anyway, just a quick Q. the ebay ad doesnt say what the RPM is. Also, will it stand up to hours and hours on end running constantly?

Thanks

It's not certain that a motor for a low duty application like a lawnmower will be good in continuous use. There is no indication of motor speed. You could not likely run it at a ball mill speed for long without overheating.
