Hey guys, Ive been told to get a wheelchair motor, but what if my local wheelchair shop doesnt have a spare motor for me to buy!? What could I use then? Tumble Dryer motor? any motors from websites!? Im looking at spendind around £20-£25 for the motor...am I setting my limit too low?
Thanks.
You will have to be a little patient, and keep looking at ebay. I picked up my mill motor along with a variable speed controller for less than £20. It is plenty powerful enough, and much less likely to burn out than the cheap stone polishing jobbies

Hmmm, what is the motor from, just so I can get an idea for what to look for on ebay or around places?

It would appear to be a standard frame size motor and would have been expensive new. I will take a picture of it later and post it on this thread. I have seen other similar packages come up on ebay and I do not look that often.
There is a DC motor on ebay at the moment which would fit the bill Clicky Clicky. It is a bit on the pricey side though considering the extra packaging charges he is asking (unless you are close enough to pick it up). You would of course need a proper controller with this for speed control, or not if you just do it with gearing.

Thanks for that, its in my potential motor list :] Anyway, just a quick Q. the ebay ad doesnt say what the RPM is. Also, will it stand up to hours and hours on end running constantly?
Thanks

It's not certain that a motor for a low duty application like a lawnmower will be good in continuous use. There is no indication of motor speed. You could not likely run it at a ball mill speed for long without overheating.
Ok thanks, im gonna have a little root around on Saturday to see what I can find....anyone reccommend a washing machine/ tumble dryer motor, or a wheelchair motor, both good for continuous use!!! Ok, ill leave you with that :]
