Are there courses related to fireworks that you would like to do in 2009 that would be better or more affordable if a group of like minded forumites also did the course, got the certificate, and shared the cost.

My suggestions

BECTU pyrotechnics and explosive special effects - 3 days residential, About £450 each

BPA level 1 firer

BPA level 2 Firer

Assn of Stage Pyrotechnicians indoor fireworks (Cat1 ) safety course 1 day about £120

Illuminate Consult's Cat 4 course about £120 according to numbers

Let's face it to get a season's value from a course we need to choose and do the course before August 2009

The BPA courses would generally be tied to a BPA-member company. 1st-Galaxy seem to do the Level 1 course for about sixty quid, Fantastic offer a 2-day course for about 350!!!

Yes BPA 1 & 2 must be taught over two days by an accredited training company and the course book costs some pounds, then there is the exam usually on the third sunday of the month and the exam fee. Then there have to be some log booked shows.

Hello pyro619

I think most places require an age limit of 18+ to allow you on their courses but good luck anyway.

i'm 18 in april! woo.

wanted to do the CAT4 training that is going ahead soon, people said that i could do it if i kept quiet about my age, but i didn't want to come to the point where someone puts two and two together and my training is void.

i looked at the first galaxy training, and that looks to be a good option.

I attended the illuminate consult cat4 training course yesterday and can highly recommend it. It was very well presented and contained lots of info on legislation, transport, safety, then a practical session where participants get to fire a couple of shells etc. Many thanks to Wayne for organizing. Will post up some photos and videos of the event next week.
